Quality assurance of screening colonoscopy
The effectiveness of the screening colonoscopy is under discussion. Detecting adenomas in the colon correlates to the withdrawal time of the colonoscope. Even colorectal cancers were missed in 2 – 6 % by colonoscopy. - The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) described important quality indicators for colonoscopy. A minimum standard of performance is essential for meeting the targets of colorectal cancer prevention. These are: Complete detection of adenomas. More than sixty percent of stages UICC I and II of colorectal carcinomas should be detected. Quality measures which should be documented before, while and after the colonoscopy are proposed.
